 MODULE 1: TEXTILES
This is the first of the Advanced GCF modules which tests the framer's textile
framing skills. A study guide, GCF Advanced Accreditation: Textile Framing,
covering all aspects of the module, with full details of what the three and
a half hour, one-to-one exam entails, is available. Candidates are also advised
to prepare by reading the Guild's handbook on Framing Fabric Art and other specialist
publications. Examination is available at testers' premises and at LION Picture Framing Supplies,
though tests can be carried out at candidates' own premises by
special arrangement (there may be an extra charge for this) and overseas by an
international tester. Candidates must be qualified GCF's and be Guild members.
|
MODULE 2: MOUNT DESIGN AND FUNCTION
The second Advanced module, Mount Design & Function will appeal
to framers wanting to demonstrate that they excel at any decorative
effect within the frame. The exam comprises three parts: a practical
test; a written paper; and an inspection by an examiner of three frames
made by the candidate. The written paper is shorter than that of
the advanced textile module, while the practical element is longer,
reflecting the differences between the two disciplines. A Guide
for Candidates is available. It includes a list of recommended
reading. Candidates must be qualified GCF's and be Guild members.
|
 MODULE 3: CONSERVATION FRAMING
The third Advanced module, Conservation Framing, is designed to test skills in mounting and framing to Guild Conservation and Museum
levels. There is a Guide for Candidates which covers the required aspects of the exam with an extensive recommended reading list.
This exam is carried out on a one-to one basis at the testers' premises and takes at least three and a half hours. The exam comprises
inspection of four prepared pieces, written paper comprising multiple choice and short answer paper, practical test with verbal
questioning and written condition report. Candidates should be able to identify different types of artwork, including photography, and
suggest appropriate framing treatments. Candidates must be qualified GCF's and be Guild members.
